We all love the feeling of a good workout session in yoga, but if we want to succeed in our yoga practice, we will have to fuel our bodies with the right nutrients.

A consistent yoga practice will help to build overall body strength, but without proper eating habits, our muscles will not develop and we will not be able to achieve the healthy lifestyle we strive for.

Here at Trium Fitness, we believe in not just discipline through yoga but also in diet. We are happy to provide you with some tips on what to eat before and after your yoga practice to help you become a happy and well nourished yogi!

Foods to Consume Before Yoga

1. Avocado

A lot of yoga practitioners like avocado, as it is. This fruit is loaded with minerals like potassium and magnesium, and consuming it aids in the proper functioning of muscles and cells in your body. Besides, avocados are easy to digest and can help to suppress your appetite during class for a while. The healthy fat found in avocados also helps to reduce bad cholesterol.

2. Bananas

Living in the topics, this amazing fruit is easily available to us and one of our top favorite go- to fruits, because they are affordable and nutritious! Rich in potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B-6 and antioxidant compounds, it is definitely an ideal snack. Bananas also contains magnesium which prevents bloating and muscle cramps during your yoga session!

3. Yoghurt

As long as you do not encounter any problems with dairy digestion, a little yoghurt can be a wise option as a pre-yoga snack. Try a small serving of Greek yogurt if you can, as it is rich in lactose, a naturally occurring sugar that will also provide you with sustained energy.

4. Raisins

Raisins pack more nutrition than their small size might indicate. Raisins are a great source of natural sugar that will provide you energy for your yoga practice. The best part? We just love that they are so portable and gym-bag friendly!

Foods to Consume After Yoga

1. Water, water, water!

We just cannot stress enough on the importance of hydrating yourself after a good workout session! Drinking water after yoga is crucial and necessary to replace the lost fluids in your body (especially if you sweat during your workout). Furthermore, maintaining good hydration will also aid in healthy weight loss and prevent dehydration.

2. Almonds (Protein)

We’re talking about raw almonds here, not the salted ones available in your neighbourhood supermarket! Organic, raw almonds will serve as the best option for you. Almonds contain vitamin E, magnesium and healthy fats, and eating them can give you the required energy boost you need before yoga sessions.

3. Oatmeal

When you have the time after a workout, it's best to refuel with a "whole food" option. This complex carbohydrate powerhouse will directly benefit your yoga training as not only is it high in carbohydrate content but it is also easy to digest. Thus, we highly recommend oatmeal as it is gentle on most stomachs, especially if you make them with water.

4. Eggs

After exercising, it is important to consume protein for prime muscle recovery. However it is important to note not to go overboard with egg yolks, as they are high in fat and cholesterol. Go ahead and whip up an omelette with fresh vegetable like tomatoes and spinach for more of a healthy post-yoga meal!

A Healthy You, A Happy You

A happy and healthy you is a result of taking care of your own body, which includes your diet and exercise regime. This list that we have provided you with is not an extensive one, but we hope it will be sufficient to serve as a guide for you to develop healthy eating habits prior and after your yoga sessions here at Trium Fitness! Remember, diet and exercise go hand in hand, so stay disciplined with your yoga practice and we promise you will feel the benefits in no time!
